Environment Watch, a non-governmental organization, has said that the deaths of scores of people during floods is the fault of the lack of implementation of the Ministry of Works' 2025 Budget in Mokwa, Niger State. The group has criticized Minister of Works David Umahi for delaying crucial drainage and erosion control projects, saying timely budget implementation could have mitigated the disaster.

Heavy rain triggered floods in Mokwa destroyed homes and displaced thousands of residents, and washed away two bridges and two roads. At least 150 people were killed, and many are still missing as rescue operations continue.

President Bola Tinubu has described the situation as ''distressing'' and vowed that no Nigerian caught in the tragedy would be ''left behind or unheard of.'' Environment Watch called on Tinubu to remove underperforming officials from his cabinet, asserting that certain individuals are sabotaging the administration's efforts to improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
